But despite all of the success and acclaim, he has complete faith in Tom Hanks, his co-star on “Toy Story” and close friend.
In a recent conversation on Kelly Clarkson’s show, Allen revealed that he and Hanks are actually buddies. Even if they don’t always agree, Allen respects Hanks for his intelligence and kind heart. Their relationship, which began in the original “Toy Story” film and has only become stronger with time, is
“We’ve been going to lunch twice a year since Toy Story 1, and we’re like two older women because we sit almost too close at a booth,” Allen says, endearingly and with a hint of humor. Indeed, Allen tells a funny story about how, during “Toy Story 1,” Hanks tucked fries from his plate with a casual demeanor. Allen was deeply touched by this modest show of friendship, as he had not encountered such kindness during his childhood.
“I don’t think I’ve ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to even listen to me, let alone listen to me,” says Allen, thinking back on their friendship. Hanks has consistently supported Allen despite their divergent opinions on a range of issues, and he has emerged as the only one who genuinely listens to him without passing judgment.
