“THE MAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING”
Anna had once believed in forever. When she married Matthew, he had been her best friend, her rock, and the man who promised her the world. She envisioned a life filled with laughter, love, and the pitter-patter of little feet running through their home.
And for a while, it was exactly that. Their first daughter, Lily, was born, and Matthew had been overjoyed—until the doctor said, **“It’s a girl.”** His smile had faltered for just a moment, but he quickly masked it.
Then came Emma. Another girl.
Matthew tried to keep his disappointment hidden, but Anna could see it. With each pregnancy, he would say, **“This one will be a boy, I just know it.”** And with each delivery, she saw his hope turn into frustration.
By the time their fifth daughter, Ava, was born, Matthew didn’t even pretend to be happy. He didn’t hold her. He barely looked at her. Instead, he walked out of the hospital room, silent and brooding.
And the next day, he filed for divorce.
THE FALL OF A MARRIAGE
Matthew stayed in the house, but he was no longer a husband or a father. He became a stranger. He ignored Anna and the girls, spending his nights out drinking or locked away in his office. When he finally brought home another woman, flaunting her in their home as if Anna and their daughters didn’t exist, she knew it was time to go.
So, she packed her bags.
With five little girls in tow, she left, heartbroken but determined. She built a new life—one where her daughters were cherished, one where love wasn’t conditional.
And Matthew?
She never saw or heard from him again.
YEARS LATER
One crisp autumn afternoon, as Anna walked through the park, watching children play and couples stroll by, a man sitting alone on a bench caught her eye.
At first, she wasn’t sure, but then she gasped.
**Matthew.**
He was hunched over, older than she remembered, but not just in years. His hair was streaked with gray, his face sunken, his once-proud posture slouched. He looked… empty.
For a moment, she hesitated. But something in her pushed her forward.
**“Matthew?”**
His head snapped up, his eyes widening in shock. **“Anna?”**
For a second, neither spoke. Then, after what felt like a lifetime, he let out a weak chuckle. **“Wow… you look good.”**
**“And you look… different,”** she said carefully.
Matthew sighed and looked down at his hands. **“Life didn’t turn out the way I thought it would.”**
Anna sat beside him. **“How so?”**
He let out a bitter laugh. **“I wanted a son. I thought that was the only way to be happy. But in chasing that, I lost everything. You, my daughters… my family. I was an idiot, Anna.”**
A silence stretched between them.
Then Matthew spoke again, his voice softer this time.
**“Do they hate me?”**
Anna sighed. **“They don’t know you.”**
She didn’t say it with anger, just the truth.
Matthew swallowed hard. **“I deserve that.”**
They sat there for a while, the weight of the past between them. Then, for the first time in years, Matthew looked up at her—not with bitterness, not with regret, but with the understanding of a man who had thrown away everything that truly mattered.
And Anna?
She had moved on. She had raised five incredible daughters, built a beautiful life, and found happiness in ways Matthew never could.
Finally, she stood. **“Goodbye, Matthew.”**
As she walked away, leaving him behind on that bench, she realized something.
She had lost a husband years ago, but Matthew…
Matthew had lost so much more.
