Mirrored Monolith Appears In Nevada Desert & Las Vegas Police Are Stumped

When going on a hike, it’s important to stay present — that way, you’re better able to take in the beauty of the nature that surrounds you. For those who took a popular hiking trail in Las Vegas recently, I have a feeling they had no problem spotting one peculiar landmark in particular: a mirrored monolith. Who put it here? And why did they do it? Both are great questions… that the Las Vegas police aren’t able to answer. Why? Because they don’t know either.

“We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out!” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) shares in a Facebook post. “Over the weekend, Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue spotted this mysterious monolith near Gass Peak north of the valley. HOW did it get up there??”

The monolith, which perfectly mirrors the surrounding scenery, has become quite the popular mystery. Not only is this trail (Gass Peak) popular, but it’s also the highest peak in Las Vegas — 7,000 feet to be exact! Plus, it’s about 20 miles from the north of the city. In other words, getting this massive object there couldn’t have been easy.
