Settling in New York City, she cemented her place in the modeling world, thanks in part to Paulo Zampolli, a businessman who facilitated her career by introducing her to major players and helping her secure a work visa. Notably, among Zampolli’s wealthy acquaintances was Donald Trump.

The pivotal meeting occurred in 1998 during a New York Fashion Week event hosted by Zampolli at the Kit Kat Club, where Melania caught Donald’s eye. At the time, Donald, who had attended with a date, was freshly separated from his second wife, Marla Maples, but it was clear his attention was elsewhere. Eventually, the spark between him and Melania ignited.

In 2000, the couple briefly parted ways, partly due to Donald’s burgeoning political aspirations, a topic Melania touched on in an interview with DuJour. Despite this split, their hiatus was short-lived, lasting just a few months.
