“Mom, I saw him!” Chris cried. “I saw his shadow through the sheets because of the night light.”

“Listen, Chris,” Lacey said, her voice firm but gentle. “I’m going to catch him, whoever he may be. Remember that nanny cam mom got when you were little?”

“The one that looks like a teddy bear?” asked Chris, his eyes wide with anticipation.

“Yes,” Lacey said, nodding. “I’m going to put it in your bedroom tonight, and if ANYTHING moves in there, it will film it.”

The next morning, Lacey sat down to breakfast with Chris and uploaded the cam video onto her laptop. As they watched, her heart pounded with a mixture of fear and determination.

Her mouth fell open. In the black and white video showing Chris’ room, the closet door swung open, and a smaller figure of a boy scuttled out. It was unmistakably real, and it sent shivers down Lacey’s spine.

“Chris,” Lacey whispered, her voice barely audible. “Do you see that?”

Chris nodded, his eyes wide with disbelief. “That’s him! That’s the boy I saw last night.”
