Animals are more caring compassionate than we often give them credit for. Sometimes they step up to mother other animals, even if they aren’t their actual offspring — or even the same species!
That was what one farmer learned, when he checked his chicken coop and made a surprising discovery…
Goran Surchi, a farmer from Iraq, heard meows coming from his chicken coop, and was worried the hens might be in danger, according to Bored Panda.

He rushed in to check on the chickens, and discovered they weren’t in danger at all — quite the opposite. Goran followed the sound of the meowing, and realized it was coming from underneath one of the hens.

Goran lifted up the chicken, and was stunned when three furry little heads peaked out from underneath. “To my surprise, there were three beautiful kittens there,” Goran told Bored Panda.
Goran later discovered that the kittens were orphans: their mother was found lifeless after drowning in a nearby lake.
They needed someone to care for them, and found an unlikely mother figure in the chicken, who was happy to keep them safe and warm as if they were her chicks.

“Amazing how our chicken seemed to know the story, thus resolving to take care of the kittens,” Goran said.
The farmer happened to catch the surprising moment on video, and it went viral on TikTok with over half a million views. Many people commented on the video, calling it precious and heartwarming.

“This is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life I’m dying,” one comment reads.
