My MIL threw a bill at my face at my wedding. It turned out my mom overheard our conversation. I gave my mom, MIL, and my two bridesmaids $350 each for their make-up and hair for my wedding day.

I had just fit into my dress when my MIL broke into the room and threw an envelope at me on the wedding day. I opened it:

– Make-up – 300
– Dress – 500

“Your money was just pittance. Pay the entire bill!” my MIL yelled. Before I could say something, my mom stepped through the adjoining room door, appearing behind MIL, and crossed her arms.

“Excuse me,” my mom said firmly. “What is going on here?”

My MIL turned, startled, and glared at my mom. “Your daughter needs to pay the full amount for my hair, make-up, and dress. The money she gave me barely covered anything.”

“Is that so?” my mom replied coolly. “Let’s get one thing straight. The $350 was a gift from my daughter to contribute to your expenses, not to cover everything. If you weren’t satisfied with the arrangement, you should have discussed it beforehand, not throw a bill at her on her wedding day.”

My MIL’s face turned red with anger. “I shouldn’t have to pay out of my pocket for this wedding! It’s her responsibility to cover these costs.”

“Actually,” my mom said, stepping closer, “it’s a wedding, a joyful celebration. Everyone pitches in to make the day special. You agreed to these arrangements. And now, you owe my daughter an apology.”

My MIL looked like she was about to explode but instead turned on her heel and stormed out of the room. I stood there, stunned and on the verge of tears. My mom turned to me, her expression softening.

“I’m so sorry, sweetie,” she said, pulling me into a hug. “Don’t let her ruin your day. Today is about you and your happiness.”

I nodded, trying to hold back my tears. “Thank you, Mom. I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

“You don’t have to do anything alone,” she said. “Now, let’s finish getting you ready. You have a wedding to enjoy.”

With my mom’s support, I was able to push the incident with my MIL out of my mind and focus on the joy of the day. The ceremony was beautiful, and as I walked down the aisle, I saw the love and support in the eyes of my family and friends.

Later, at the reception, my MIL approached me, looking slightly embarrassed. “I’m sorry for earlier,” she said stiffly. “I shouldn’t have acted like that.”
