“MOM! WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?! Where’s my breakfast?!” Justin yelled as he knocked on her door. There was no answer.
“Mom! Open the door! I’m going to be late for school!” Once again, there was no response.
At this point, Justin burst open the door. As he walked inside, he saw Laura lying on the floor, unconscious.
“Mom!” The boy sobbed. “What happened, Mom? Open your eyes, please!” He ran to the kitchen for a glass of water and sprinkled it all over Laura’s face, but she didn’t wake up.
Worried, Justin grabbed Laura’s cell phone and dialed 911.
Justin couldn’t fight back his tears when he saw his mother being taken away by the emergency responders. He went back to her room and sank onto her bed, teary-eyed.
Suddenly, his attention was drawn to a note nearby. He wiped his tears away and reached for the note to see what was written on it. His hands trembled as he unfolded the paper, his heart pounding in his chest.
“Dear Justin,
If you’re reading this, it means something has happened to me. I’m so sorry if I’ve scared you. I’ve been feeling unwell for a while but didn’t want to worry you. I’ve been trying to manage on my own, but I realize now that was a mistake. I’m sorry for not being the mom you need right now.
There are some things you need to know. First, I love you more than anything in this world. You’ve been my strength and my reason to keep going. Second, I need you to be strong for me, for yourself. Help is on the way, and I promise you, everything will be okay.
Take care of yourself, my sweet boy. I’m proud of you, and I believe in you. No matter what happens, remember that you’re never alone. You have family and friends who care about you, and you’re stronger than you think.
Love always,
Mom”
Tears streamed down Justin’s face as he read the note. He clutched it to his chest, feeling a mix of fear and determination. He knew he had to be strong, just like his mom had asked. He vowed to take care of her, just as she had always taken care of him.
Hours passed before Justin got any news. He sat by the phone, anxiously waiting. Finally, a call came from the hospital.
“Hello? This is Justin,” he answered, his voice shaky.
“Justin, this is Dr. Evans. Your mom is stable now. She had a severe episode, but she’s responding to treatment. You did the right thing by calling 911.”
Relief washed over Justin, and he let out a sob. “Can I see her?”
“Yes, you can come down to the hospital. She’ll be happy to see you.”
Justin quickly packed a few things and rushed to the hospital. When he arrived, he was guided to his mother’s room. Seeing her awake and smiling weakly brought tears to his eyes again.
“Mom!” he cried, rushing to her side.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Laura said softly, reaching out to hold his hand. “I’m so sorry I scared you.”
Justin shook his head. “I found your note. I love you, Mom. I’m here for you.”
Laura squeezed his hand. “And I’m here for you, too, Justin. We’re going to get through this together, okay?”
Justin nodded, feeling a renewed sense of hope and strength. “Okay, Mom. Together.”
From that day forward, Justin and Laura faced the challenges ahead with courage and resilience. They knew that no matter what obstacle
