Richins had three children with her husband Eric, whom she killed with a poisoned cocktail in 2022.<\/p>\n

The widely publicized trial of Kouri Richins is over, with a jury finding the Utah mother of three\u00a0guilty of first-degree aggravated murder\u00a0in the death of husband Eric Richins on March 4, 2022.<\/p>\n

Richins, 35, was also convicted on charges of attempted aggravated murder, forgery, and insurance fraud and awaits her sentencing in May 2026. She faces 25 years to life in prison without parole for the aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder convictions.<\/p>\n

The case garnered added attention because of Richins\u2019s behavior following her husband\u2019s death. Most notably, Richins, who has maintained her innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges, published a children\u2019s book in 2023 she claimed was meant to help her three young sons deal with the loss of their father.<\/p>\n

How Many Children Did Kouri Richins and Eric Richins Have?<\/h2>\n

Kouri and Eric Richins had three children: sons Carter, Ashton, and Weston. They were 9, 7, and 5, respectively, at the time of his death in March 2022. That would make them around 13, 11, and 9 years old now.<\/p>\n

According to his\u00a0obituary from Walker Mortuary, Eric \u201cwas a family man, who always strove to be the absolute best father and husband\u201d and \u201cdid absolutely everything in his power to provide his family with every possible opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why Did Kouri Richins Publish a Book for Her Children?<\/h2>\n

Richins\u2019s trial garnered additional attention because of a book she published for her three children about grief.<\/p>\n

Released March 5, 2023\u2014almost a year to the day following Eric\u2019s death\u2014Are You With Me?<\/em>\u00a0is authored by Kouri D. Richins and tells the story of a boy who must grieve the death of his father. The child looks for his parent\u2019s angelic presence amid everyday activities.<\/p>\n

Richins promoted the book on the local television program\u00a0Good Things Utah<\/em>. \u201cI just wanted some story to read to my kids at night,\u201d she\u00a0told the hosts in a clip shown by\u00a048 Hours<\/em>, \u201cand so, you know, I was like, \u2018Let\u2019s just write one.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Richins\u2019s trial brought more details about the book to light.\u00a0According to\u00a0KSL.com<\/em>, the prosecution showed text messages suggesting Richins\u2019s book was actually penned by a ghostwriter. Summit County sheriff\u2019s detective Jeff O\u2019Driscoll, a witness during the trial, said that texts between Richins and her brother discussed the cost of the book and how much money would be made for each copy sold.<\/p>\n

Where Are Kouri Richins\u2019s Children Now?<\/h2>\n

Richins was officially charged with Eric\u2019s murder on May 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

Little is known about the couple\u2019s children today. According to a\u00a0report from the\u00a0Park Record<\/em>\u00a0newspaper\u00a0in Park City, Utah, in November 2024, a juvenile court ruled to give Eric Richins\u2019s family custody of the three boys.<\/p>\n

At the time, attorneys for Kouri were attempting to petition for new conditions for bail and pre-trial release, which was denied. Per the report, they claimed Richins participated in multiple classes while in prison and showed no sign of violence over the 17 months following her arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a mother, there is no way Kouri Richins is leaving her children no matter what they\u2019re being told. \u2026 She would never leave her children,\u201d lawyer Kathryn Nester said, dismissing the idea Richins would be a flight risk. \u201cShe literally has no resources to leave the country, to resettle in another place. She would have no ability to support herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richins remained at the Summit County Jail through the duration of her trial. Following her convictions, she will be sentenced on May 13, 2025\u2014which would have been Eric\u2019s 44th birthday.<\/p>\n
