Jimmy Kimmel rarely misses an opportunity to take a dig at Donald Trump and those closest to him, so it was hardly a surprise Melania Trump found herself in his sights at this year\u2019s Oscars.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The iconic awards gala played out last night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Conan O\u2019Brien. The event saw\u00a0One Battle After Another\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Sinners\u00a0<\/em>enjoy serious success, with the former winning no less than six Academy Awards and the latter earning four.<\/p>\n

Presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature Film was late night talkshow host Jimmy Kimmel, who used his time on stage to throw some shade in the direction of the Trumps.<\/p>\n

Given Kimmel\u2019s turbulent history with President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>, and the fact that\u00a0Melania Trump\u00a0<\/a>released her own documentary,\u00a0Melania,\u00a0<\/em>in January, it was always likely to be the case that the FLOTUS found herself in the firing line with Kimmel in charge of handing out an award for documentaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are also documentaries where you walk around the White House trying on shoes,\u201d the talk show host said before he presented the award.<\/p>\n

He then added: \u201cOh man, is he going to be mad his wife wasn\u2019t nominated for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Amazon documentary, which currently has a paltry\u00a01,5\/10<\/a>\u00a0rating on IMDb, followed Melania as she prepared to return to the White House in 2025 after her husband\u2019s victory in the 2024 US elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, Melania showcases Mrs Trump\u2019s return to one of the world\u2019s most powerful roles,\u201d a synopsis of the film reads.<\/p>\n

The First Lady, it\u2019s reported, was paid the princely sum of $40 million by Amazon for exclusive behind-the-scenes access into her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very proud of the film so people may like it, may don\u2019t like it, and that\u2019s their choice,\u201d Melania told CNN after the project\u2019s release. \u201cWe achieved what we want to achieve. For myself, it\u2019s already successful. I\u2019m very proud of what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n

By and large, critics gave scathing reviews of\u00a0Melania<\/em>, with the\u00a0Hollywood Reporter<\/a>\u00a0labeling it \u201cexpensive propaganda\u201d,\u00a0The Atlantic<\/a>\u00a0calling the film \u201ca disgrace,\u201d and The Guardian describing it as \u201cgilded trash\u201d.<\/p>\n

As for Kimmel\u2019s zesty barbs, the talkshow host\u2019s history with the Trumps goes back years, even if it\u2019s usually Donald who is his primary target of choice.<\/p>\n

Kimmel was taken off air last year after comments following the assassination of Charlie Kirk \u2013 comments that, apparently, evoked Trump\u2019s ire \u2013 before later being reinstated on ABC.<\/p>\n

Last night, Kimmel appeared to aim a dig at Trump and CBS as well, stating: \u201cTelling a story that could get you killed for telling it is real courage. As you know, there are some countries whose leaders don\u2019t support free speech. I\u2019m not at liberty to say which.
