One person was taken in for questioning but later released \u2014 and most notably, the surveillance footage from Guthrie\u2019s home has sparked intense public reaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now, a former FBI agent suggests that the suspected kidnapper may have made a major blunder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Raised red flags<\/h2>\n

The desperate search for \u201cToday\u201d show co-host Savannah Guthrie\u2019s 84-year-old mother has entered its eleventh day, and newly released FBI images and video offer the first chilling glimpse of the suspect.<\/p>\n

The footage, released by FBI and pulled from a Nest security camera outside\u00a0Nancy Guthrie\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0Tucson home, shows a masked figure in light-colored clothing approaching the house at night.<\/p>\n

In one frame, the person appears to be carrying a firearm in a way that immediately raised red flags for former FBI agent Mark Harrigan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a very non-conventional way to carry a firearm. Very non-conventional,\u201d Harrigan told\u00a0The New York Post<\/a>, pointing to what appears to be the weapon positioned at the front of the suspect\u2019s body.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has it in the open, which is unusual, because normally you would want it concealed when you\u2019re going to do a crime, so you\u2019re not calling attention to yourself with an exposed firearm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Harrigan, who previously led the FBI\u2019s Firearms Training Program, that detail could suggest inexperience.<\/p>\n

A \u201crookie\u201d<\/h2>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s potentially somebody that\u2019s not normally armed or carrying a firearm around in public. Normally, you\u2019d have it on the hip,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t carry it on your hip bone because it\u2019s uncomfortable. He may have had it concealed in his backpack and decided then to put it on his waist when he got close to the door,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Harrigan\u2019s view is shared by longtime private investigator Andy Kay, who\u00a0labeled<\/a>\u00a0the suspected kidnapper a \u201crookie\u201d due to the way their weapon appeared awkwardly holstered.<\/p>\n

The suspect\u2019s actions near the camera drew attention, with one specific detail standing out: the masked figure seems to grab nearby vegetation in an effort to obscure the lens.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe balls his fist up, and then you see him walk back out of the vestibule there. It appears he\u2019s looking for something to conceal the camera. He reaches down and picks up some vegetation in an attempt to cover the camera,\u201d Harrigan explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cA sophisticated person would have brought something from the very beginning. Either a hammer or something to remove the camera, or spray paint,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
