We love her work in films like\u00a0Forrest Gump<\/em>,\u00a0Mrs. Doubtfire<\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0Steel Magnolias<\/em>. Some of our favorite work from her, though, is not on the screen but instead in her personal approach to working against ageism and bullying in her career.<\/p>\n

Field exudes the same radiance she possessed at 19 \u2013 though she\u2019s still confronting criticism about her appearance<\/p>\n

Early life and career<\/h2>\n

Field started life with some challenges, chiefly due to the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather, Jock Mahoney \u2013 something she revealed in her 2018 memoir, per\u00a0The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her first acting gig was in the hit 60s sitcom\u00a0Gidget<\/em>, a role that skyrocketed her to stardom, landing her more serious acting roles in movies like\u00a0Sybil<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Norma Rae<\/em>\u00a0(which earned her an Academy Award).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe woman\u00a0I worked with, a\u00a0great actress, on\u00a0The Flying Nun<\/em>, grabbed me\u00a0to\u00a0the back of\u00a0the sound stage and put a\u00a0piece of\u00a0paper in\u00a0my\u00a0hand because\u00a0I was\u00a0<\/strong>really\u00a0depressed,\u201d she\u00a0recalled.<\/p>\n

Aging naturally<\/h2>\n

As she ages, Field has been vocal about approaching getting older with grace, saying in a 2016 interview with\u00a0Good Housekeeping<\/a>\u00a0that she has accepted her status as an \u201cold woman\u201d. During that interview, Field added that she\u2019s chosen to age naturally, especially because growing older is inevitable.<\/p>\n

The talented actress acknowledged the importance of\u00a0respecting and appreciating how she looks now, rather than using plastic surgery to try too hard to recreate how she looked in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0see myself on\u00a0TV and say, \u2019Oh, I\u00a0wish that weren\u2019t happening to\u00a0my\u00a0neck.\u2019 And your face is\u00a0falling, and your eyes are so\u00a0puffy,\u201d\u00a0Field\u00a0explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Facing internet trolls and health issues<\/h2>\n

Though, by choosing to age naturally, Field has unfortunately left herself open to criticism from nasty internet trolls, who have called her \u201cugly\u201d.<\/p>\n

In fact, these trolls took to X (formerly known as Twitter), insulting her looks and making awful comments about her physical appearance. Sadly, these comments are commonplace for most celebrities, even though they shouldn\u2019t be.<\/p>\n

Lately, Field has brushed off the comments, revealing how she still prefers to age naturally, regardless of what people say about her.<\/p>\n

The actress has also been dealing with her silent illness, osteoporosis \u2013 something she was diagnosed with before turning 60 in 2005, but an issue she rarely speaks about.<\/p>\n

Women are sadly more susceptible to this horrible illness due to the hormonal changes they face during menopause, and this can lead to a decrease in bone density. No matter what Field did \u2013 from maintaining a healthy lifestyle to exercising regularly \u2013 there was no way for her to prevent the diagnosis, she told\u00a0WebMD<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always knew I fit the risk profile. I was thin, small boned, Caucasian, and heading towards age 60. But I was amazed at how quickly a woman could go from being\u00a0at\u00a0<\/em>risk\u00a0to having full-fledged\u00a0osteoporosis,\u201d Field said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy bones appeared to be getting steadily thinner without any signs or symptoms I could see or feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Given her battle with osteoporosis, it\u2019s sad to see Field being bullied on the internet, especially by people who don\u2019t even know her. Though, her commitment to aging gracefully is an inspiration to those who choose to do the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n
