Donald Trump appears to have been caught in a major \u201clie\u201d after Maryland Governor Wes Moore publicly contradicted him.<\/p>\n

The president, known for his colorful statements, made another headline-grabbing claim on Monday, August 25, while announcing a series of new executive orders. He described Baltimore as a \u201chorrible death bed\u201d rife with crime\u2014a description he has used for several Democratic-led cities.<\/p>\n

Moore Fires Back<\/h2>\n

Governor Moore did not take the comment lightly. In a speech, he challenged Trump to \u201cwalk our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then Trump claimed that Moore had privately called him \u201cthe greatest president of my lifetime.\u201d He described a meeting where Moore allegedly hugged him, shook his hand, and praised his job performance.<\/p>\n

Moore insists the conversation never happened. Carter Elliott IV, a senior communications adviser, clarified: \u201cMoore and the president met, but the governor did not say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking on WBAL Radio, Moore emphasized his integrity:
\u201cI spent the past six months before that election campaigning on why I did not think he should be the next president. So when I say that conversation never happened, that imaginary conversation never happened, I mean it literally never happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

On X, Moore initially responded with a simple \u201clol,\u201d then added a six-word retort to Trump:
\u201cKeep telling yourself that, Mr. President.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump Criticizes Moore Again<\/h2>\n

Trump continued his criticism on Monday, claiming Moore \u201cdoesn\u2019t have what it takes\u201d to lower crime in Maryland. He added:
\u201cMoore is doing a bad job, [Gavin] Newsom is doing a bad job. All of their potential candidates are doing a bad job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead to 2028<\/h2>\n

Moore has been mentioned as a potential Democratic candidate for the 2028 presidential race. On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance appears favored.<\/p>\n

When NBC asked if Trump might \u201cpass the torch\u201d to him in 2028, Vance laughed and smiled:
\u201cAs you know, the president talks about everything. And if it\u2019s in the news, the president and I have certainly discussed it. But before we talk about anything three-and-a-half years down the road, let\u2019s take a break from politics, focus on governing, and later focus on the midterm elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
