A senior official who served in the Biden administration\u2019s State Department has just pleaded guilty to a jaw-dropping theft \u2014 and the numbers are staggering.<\/p>\n

Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, a former senior budget analyst in the Office of the Chief of Protocol, admitted to embezzling<\/p>\n

$657,347.50 over two years. According to a report by the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for D.C., she wrote dozens of checks<\/p>\n

to herself and deposited them into personal accounts while disguising them in the State Department\u2019s accounting system.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said Ferrer used QuickBooks to change payee records after printing each check, falsely assigning the funds to real vendors to avoid detection.<\/p>\n

She pleaded guilty to theft of government property and will be sentenced on September 18.<\/p>\n

New York Post reported that Ferrer has agreed to repay the stolen funds and faces up to 10 years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.<\/p>\n
