I should\u2019ve known better. Who agrees to be a fake date for a complete stranger they met in a **hotel elevator**? Me, apparently.<\/p>\n
It all started when I was rushing to meet a friend for dinner. I was tapping my foot impatiently when the elevator stalled. **Perfect.** Just what I needed. But then, I noticed the man stuck with me\u2014**tall, handsome, and far too calm about the situation.**<\/p>\n
*”You okay?”* he asked.<\/p>\n
*”Not really. Kind of in a rush here.”*<\/p>\n
*”I get it. But hey, look on the bright side\u2014we\u2019re not plummeting to our deaths, so that\u2019s a win, right?”*<\/p>\n
I laughed despite myself.<\/p>\n
Then, completely out of nowhere, he hit me with **the offer.**<\/p>\n
*”I\u2019m going to a wedding tomorrow, and I don\u2019t have a date. Want to be my fake date?”*<\/p>\n
Excuse me, what now?<\/p>\n
He explained his situation\u2014his ex would be there, and he wanted to avoid **the dreaded singles’ table humiliation.** I had a million reasons to say no. But against all logic, I **said yes.**<\/p>\n
### **The Wedding Day**<\/p>\n
The venue was breathtaking, and I felt like I had just walked into a real-life rom-com. But I couldn\u2019t shake the feeling that people were **watching us.** Almost like they knew our secret.<\/p>\n
And then, the real disaster struck.<\/p>\n
A woman\u2014**drop-dead gorgeous, all legs, confidence, and high heels\u2014**made a beeline for us.<\/p>\n
Dylan stiffened beside me and leaned in. *”Oh. And there\u2019s my ex.”*<\/p>\n

She stopped right in front of us, her sharp gaze locked onto mine.<\/p>\n
